These days, having a charity when you're a celebrity is practically mandatory. It's good for your brand, good for the tax returns and yes, quite possibly also good for the beneficiaries of the said charity. Some stars prefer to do it through organizations that have long established their credibility. Here's a list of the top 5 celebrities who have done their part in making the world and this might surprise you: Angelina Jolie, though completely active and visible in her advocacies, is not on the list.

  • "Born This Way" singer, Lady Gaga, tops this list when she partnered with a number of celebrities and personalities to raise a cool million dollars for World AIDS Day. The celebrities who participated stayed off their Twitter and Facebook feeds until the amount was raised in a cyber event called "Digital Death." Among Gaga's most notable work is her tireless campaign for gay rights, most especially the repealed "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy.
  • Alicia Keys takes second place by leading the charge of the "Digital Death" campaign. She has also persuades celebrities to be involved in the "Keep a Child Alive Campaign" and as much as 250,000 people in Africa have already been helped by Keys' efforts.
  • Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore's relationship might allegedly be on the rocks but their hearts are still in the right place. Last year, the couple worked diligently and untiringly against modern sex slavery, especially sex trafficking in children. Kutcher and Moore created the DNA Foundation which publicizes this cause and in effect, successfully shut down craigslist's lascivious "Adult Services" section.
  • Academy Award winner, Matt Damon, created H2O Africa and partnered with WaterPartners to create Water.org; an organization that seeks to make clean, drinkable water available to everyone. Damon also supports the ONE Campaign which fights AIDS and poverty in third world countries.
