Apple's series of patent grants now hints at more upgrades including a zoom lens that can differentiate the rest of its products from competition. The patent discusses about the use of light splitter cube that divides colors or camera scene into three. Apple included three camera sensors to receive the color components, processing each and forming them into image qualities that are unlike any other. With a new zoon lens and camera technology in two, will Apple be able to secure the future of its products?

Apple's new patent grant discusses the use of a digital camera component that can serve a number of purposes for iDevices and similar products in the future. The patent goes by the number 8,988,564 with the title "Digital camera with light splitter."

Specifically, the patent grant discusses how the component can be used: “A digital camera component is described that has a light splitter cube having an entrance face to receive incident light from a camera scene. The cube splits the incident light into first, second, and third color components that emerge from the cube through a first face, a second face, and a third face of the cube, respectively.”

“ First, second, and third image sensors are provided, each being positioned to receive a respective one of the color components that emerge from the first, second, and third faces of the cube. Other embodiments are also described and claimed."

Despite the highly technical nature, there are several things that people can get from the invention. For instance, the folding mirror can double as a deflector. It can also tilt and roll in line with the optical image stabilization (OIS) mechanism included in present iDevices. Apple did not specify yet which actual releases will incorporate the technology but the feature should come any time soon. As with other patents, realization of the invention may or may not take place in the next release depending on Apple’s timeline.
