Nexus 5 device owners are apparently starting to receive the Android 5.1 Lollipop update over-the-air, or OTA. On the other hand, HTC VP says there will be no Android 5.1 update or higher for the HTC One M7.

Android 5.1 Lollipop Update For Nexus 5

The Android 5.1 Lollipop update for Nexus 5 reportedly comes with a size of 220.7 MB. And as expected, the OTA update has been rolled out to the Nexus 5 users in phases across the globe. Notably, one of the praiseworthy features of the Android 5.1 Lollipop is “Device Protection” that keeps the Nexus 5 locked even after factory resetting the device. Until the device owner signs back in, the Nexus 5 will reportedly stay locked, notes GSM Arena.

In addition to the Device Protection feature, the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for Nexus 5 also reportedly brings in the HD Voice feature to the device, which apparently helps in enhancing call quality. In any case, Google has not confirmed if the annoying “memory leak problem” in Nexus handsets has been patched with this new build. Readers can read more on the said Android Lollipop memory leak problem from International Business Times.

No Android 5.1 Lollipop Update For HTC One M7

The Android 5.1 Lollipop update for Nexus line-up of devices is in full swing. However, there will reportedly be no Android 5.1 Lollipop update for HTC One M7. Plus, the device will not receive any major Android update in the future as well. The silver lining, however, is that the Google Play Edition version of the One M7 will apparently receive the Lollipop update. Also, the release date for the GPE version is slated for early April. Answering a question from a One M7 user, HTC’s VP of Product Management Mo Versi has apparently tweeted saying the following: “Only the GPE version of M7 will receive 5.1. Our target is early April. Thanks.”

The HTC One M7 has already been updated to the main version Android 5.0 Lollipop. This means the new UI with Material Design is already part of the One M7, notes GSM Arena. Nonetheless, new features, enhancements and umpteen bug fixes under Android 5.1 Lollipop update will not make it to the HTC One M7.

Here is the tweet from Mo Versi confirming no Android 5.1 update for HTC One M7:
