A Delta flight to Las Vegas last week had an unusual passenger - a 9-year-old boy, alone and without a ticket.

Reports say the boy went through security without incident but officials of the airport are still boggled on how the boy did it. Getting through security, he then boarded the plane.

Patrick Hogan of the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport told the press that Delta Flight 1651's crew "became suspicious" of the child.

During the flight, members of the crew contacted Child Protective Services in Las Vegas. He was later turned over to the agency when the plane touched down in the adult playground.

Delta said it is a very serious incident and told reporters that they are working with agencies concerned.

In Delta's web site, the airline spells out its rules on children flying on their own. Airport officials, on the other hand, reviewed the footage and concluded that the 9-year-old did not have a ticket.

A runaway, the 9-year-old reportedly spent time at the airport before flying to Las Vegas, Nevada. Airport officials found that he was present at the airport the day before.

An expert in flight security found it disconcerting that the boy passed through security checks.

9-Year-Old Steals Car, Boards Several Flights the Next Day

The incident, a first for the airport, is not an isolated case. In 2007, another child of the same age boarded a flight from Seattle to Phoenix. He then took another flight to San Antonio before airport officials found he did not have a ticket.

In a CNN interview, the boy's mother said that her son gave airport officials a fake name.

Semaj Booker first stole a car and drove it, reportedly learning how to drive through video games. He wound up in a high-speed chase with Washington Police.

While the cops wanted to put him in juvenile detention, officials said he was too young so they returned him to his mother. The next morning, January 15, 2007, the boy snuck out and took a bus going to Seattle airport.

11-Year-Old Goes to Rome, Alone

In 2012, an 11-year-old from Manchester managed to slip away from his parents while the family was shopping. He went straight to Manchester Airport and boarded a plane to Rome.

Crew members found out mid flight that the boy did not have a ticket and that he was travelling alone. He was not able to get out of the airport in Rome. Italian authorities ensured that the boy stayed inside the plane. He was flown back home immediately.
