Anonymous hackers reportedly retaliating from a cyber attack on the DAX, Germany's blue chip stock index, brought down a French rugby club's fan site instead because the latter's URL contained the word "dax."

The attack, which the Business Insider linked to the Turkish website realwar.org, flooded the allezdax.com with 80,000 hits last month crashing its server for two weeks. The site was also defaced with German insults.

Before the attack, the fan site for the Union Sportive Dacquoise based in Dax, which translates to "Go, Dax," only gets an average 700 hits rising to 1,200 hits on match days. Dax is a commune in southwestern France.

Allezdax.com is back online on Thursday and its administrator, named Stephane, told the France Bleu Gascogne radio station that it is more secure, according to Agence France-Presse.

With the attack and ensuing reports, allezdax.com is now twice as popular as the DAX Index at deutsche-boerse.com. The stock index is part of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

The hacking also brought publicity to the French second division rugby team.

Union Sportive Dacquoise, also known as US Dax, currently plays in Rugby Pro D2, the second level of the French league system. The club was runners-up in the 1956, 1961, 1963, 1966 and 1973 French Championships.

Australian Morgan Turinui plays centre for the current squad.
