Arsenal are reported to be alerted by the recent development involving Jan Vertonghen and Tottenham Hotspur, as the defender and his current club has apparently failed to come to terms in sealing an improved contract.

"I am not signing. We agreed not to and I would prefer not to say why," said the Dutchman.

"I still have four years left. I am very happy at the club and I think they are happy with me. That's where it ends."

In spite of the Spurs' insistence that the 27-year-old centre-back will remain at White Hart Lane, the Gunners are making a move to secure his services in January as they are short on personnel at the back, which is aggravated by injury woes.

Meanwhile, the Ajax product is looking to make the most out his time wearing the white shirt since he might be at the opposite end wearing red in the second edition of the north London derby.

"The squad is very big and you have to work hard to play every game. I hope I am playing again soon," he added.

"I want to play in every game on the weekends and midweek. I want to play in the biggest games - that is what you are a footballer for."
