Like it or not, Valentine’s Day still involves romantic dates. It’s not mandatory but it is a welcome surprise for those who are dating, engaged or are already married. Flowers, chocolates and other gifts are also given during this time. But the day of hearts wouldn’t be complete without the romantic songs that will provide background music and set the tone for an evening filled with love and laughter.

Top 5 Valentine's Day 2015 Songs For Romantic Dates

1. “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran

This popular song from Sheeran’s “X” album is currently on the Top 2 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart. It was written by Sheeran and Amy Wadge. 3News reports that this romantic ballad is one of Sheeran’s favourite songs from “X.”

"It’s the last song I wrote for the album, but it’s the one I'd pinned as the 'walking down the aisle' song," Sheeran said in the 3News report.

True enough, “Thinking Out Loud” is usually heard nowadays during weddings. But it doesn’t mean that it’s not perfect for Valentine’s Day, too. After all, it is a song that is about loving someone “'til we're 70.”

2. “Love Me Like You Do” by Ellie Goulding

Goulding’s song is from the soundtrack of the book-to-film adaptation of “Fifty Shades of Grey,” starring Dakota Johnson (Anastasia Steele) and Jamie Dornan (Christian Grey). It was written by Max Martin, Ilya Salmanzadeh, Savan Kotecha, Tove Lo and Ali Payami. “Love Me Like You Do” is classified under the Synthpop music genre. It’s not the usual slow and romantic song, but it is still great for couples on a date.

3. “All Of Me” by John Legend

Legend’s song is from his album “Love in the Future.” He wrote it with Toby Gad for his wife Chrissy Teigen. No Valentine’s Day date would be complete without this romantic song. With lyrics that profess unconditional love, it is the right fit for a day that celebrates love.

4. “Boom Clap” by Charli XCX

This song is from the albums "Sucker" and "The Fault in Our Stars" (Music from the Motion Picture). It was written by Charli XCX, Patrik Berger, Stefan Gräslund and Fredrik Berger. Like Goulding’s song, “Boom Clap” is also classified as Synthpop. This means that the songs heavily rely on synthesizers as its main musical instrument. Despite the upbeat tone, it is still perfect for Valentine’s Day because it is about falling in love with someone who makes them feel good.

5. “Love Someone” by Jason Mraz

Mraz wrote this song with Stewart Myers, Chris Keup and the members of the band Raining Jane (Mona Tavakoli, Becky Gebhardt, Mai Bloomfield and Chaska Potter). “Love Someone” is from the album “Yes!” This pop song was released on May 19, 2014. It’s about giving and receiving love. Mraz has a lot of romantic songs under his belt, including “I’m Yours” and “Lucky,” and “Love Someone” joins that roster.
