YouTube channel REACT published "Elders Play Grand Theft Auto V (Elders React: Gaming)" on Jan. 21, 2015, a humorous video that shows senior citizens playing Rockstar Games' "Grand Theft Auto V." The video is part of their "Elders React" series and has been viewed over 7 million times to date.

The video begins by showing the elders making comments on their preconceptions about the game. "The goal of the game is to become a successful criminal," one elder claims. They are soon allowed to start playing with only the knowledge of the basic controls at hand.

Some of the elders get confused at first, making comments about the comedic mistakes they make along the way. They make remarks about the graphics, the realism of the gameplay and the similarities of the game environment to real-world locales. There are mixed reactions amongst the elders regarding their early observations on the game.

The elders react the strongest when they start committing simulated crime, the "Grand Theft Auto" series' defining feature. Some of them are highly amused by this aspect; the others appear to disapprove. One elder says, “I don't think I would kill people for real” while shooting back at the virtual police.

According to PC Gamer, “Grand Theft Auto V” has been pulled from an Australian retailer's shelves in December of this past year, as a response to a petition against the game's realistic portrayal of sexual violence. In 2001, “Grand Theft Auto 3” was banned in Australia, causing Rockstar Games to release an alternate edition without the in-game ability to hire sex workers in order for the ban to be lifted.
