The latest rumours on Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge indicate that the smartphone duo will be launched at the Mobile World Congress 2016 on Feb. 21. Samsung reportedly has plans to bring back a feature that was very much missed by the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge owners in 2015.

Memory Expansion

According to a report in VentureBeat, both variants of the Galaxy S7 will feature microSD card slots for memory expansion up to 200 GB. Samsung dropped this feature in its predecessors, the most coveted Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge smartphones.

Water and dust proofing

The report also mentioned that returning to its traditional norm, Samsung has plans to incorporate water and dust resistance capabilities to its next iteration of Galaxy handsets. Both models will reportedly feature IP67 dust and water resistance certifications.

Batteries

The batteries of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are also slated to get an overhaul. Though non-removable, the smartphone duo's batteries will reportedly get a commendable increase in capacity. The devices will house 3,000 mAh and 3,600 mAh batteries, respectively. It is worth noting that Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge have 2,550 mAh and 2,600 mAh batteries, respectively.

Tech Times reports that the wireless charging time for the Galaxy S7 will be 2 hours, while it will be 2.2 hours for the Galaxy S7 Edge.

Other rumoured features

Prevailing rumours indicate that Samsung will bring down the camera specs of the Galaxy S7 smartphones. The company will not feature the 16 MP main camera sensor with f/1.9 lens aperture of the Galaxy S6 anymore and will reduce it to only 12 MP with an f/1.7 lens aperture.

Moreover, the Korean tech giant has plans to remove the camera hump at the back. The front-facing camera will allegedly remain unchanged.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are slated to be released with the homegrown Exynos 8 Octa 8890 for the international models and will be packed with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 SoC for the US version. All regions are expected have 4 GB of RAM with 32 GB or 64 GB internal storage options. However, 128 GB option may exist in select regions.
