The Golden State Warriors were in total control in the first half of their road game against the Phoenix Suns and were well underway to protecting their perfect record. The home team however made a major run in the second half, including a 36-16 fourth quarter, as the Suns netted the convincing 107-95 victory on Sunday.

Golden State was the erstwhile only unbeaten team in the league after five games but couldn’t get the job done in Phoenix to drop to 5-1. Phoenix improved to 4-3 for the year including 3-2 at home. Warriors sharpshooter Stephen Curry finished with 28 points and 10 assists but also had 10 turnovers for the Warriors, which led 58-47 at the halftime break.

Klay Thompson, who is the Warriors’ second leading scorer this season, missed the game because of a sprained right hand. Draymond Green (22 points and 9 rebounds) stepped up his scoring while Leandro Barbosa (12 points, 2-of-3 3FG) started in lieu of Thompson, who averages 23.8 points and 3.2 assists per game.

For the Suns, they turned to spitfire guard Isaiah Thomas, who came off the bench to score 22 points and dish out 7 assists. Gerald Green also came off the bench to score 19 points on 4-of-7 three point shooting while starters Goran Dragic (19 points and 3 steals) and Marcus Morris (17 points with 3 three-pointers and 9 rebounds) both had good games.

Powered by Thomas and Green, the Suns’ bench outscored the Warriors reserves, 47-18. Phoenix shot worse from the field (43.0% to Golden State’s 47.8%) but had more trips and made at the free throw line (27/33 FTs to Golden State’s 18/21 FTs). With the home win, the Suns avoided a three-game slide after losses to the Memphis Grizzlies, 102-91 and the Sacramento Kings, 114-112 in overtime.
