There are conflicting reports regarding the apparent contract extension talks between the Seattle Seahawks and star quarterback Russell Wilson in the latest news in the National Football League, or NFL. Terry Blount of ESPN reported last Friday that Wilson and the franchise are already nearing a new deal but Mike Florio of NBC Sports’ Pro Football Talk, or PFT stated on Sunday that the talks between the franchise and one of their key players have not begun yet.

Being on a rookie deal, Wilson has one of the bargain contracts in the Seattle roster but the quarterback, who is considered one of the best players in his position, is allowed to renegotiate the contract after three years in the league.

For his three-year NFL career, Wilson has registered 9,950 passing yards and 1,877 rushing yards making him one of the best dual threat QBs in the league. The 26 year old QB who was drafted in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft, is also credited 72 passing touchdowns with 26 interceptions plus 11 rushing touchdowns.

According to the PFT report, it’s still unknown when the talks between the Seahawks front office and Wilson will begin or when is the goal for finalising the contract will be known. If the sides can not agree on a deal, Wilson will hit free agency after the 2015 NFL Season and the franchise can possibly lose their starting QB for nothing in the next offseason.

Wilson is set to earn just around $1.6 million in 2015 if there is no re-worked deal with the franchise. Being one of the stars in the line-up, he’d have comparable less salary than the likes of Richard Sherman, Jimmy Graham, Marshawn Lynch and Earl Thomas.
