Two more indicators appear to prepare the way for the fast shaping up Google Nexus 6 release date this 2014 that likely is taking place in the next few weeks.

The latest sign is the continued ascent of KitKat, the recent version of which is 4.4.4, as the second most dominant Android edition. According to Android Central, the Nestle candy bar-inspired mobile OS accounts for 24.5 per cent of all active Android devices.

While the number reflects a quarter of Android devices around the world, per Google's latest platform data, KitKat is second only to Jelly Bean, which dominates the race at more than 53 per cent.

It should be noted that Jelly Bean is spread out in three versions - 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3 - of which the first is the more widespread as it runs on over 25 per cent of all Android device tracked as active by Google as of early September 2014.

Somehow, the Android Central report viewed the development as one solid signal that the next Android is but around the corner and based on numerous reports that same software will wrap up the Android 4x series and open the door for 5.0.

Specifically, the upcoming Google mobile operating system is taking another sweet official name - Android Lion that according to Phone Arena is another candy product from Nestle. The report also dropped the hint that Lion 5.0 will continue Google's partnership with Nestle.

In the same report, which was based on a GFXBench test result, core specs of the Nexus 6 was also provided that essentially echoed previously leaked details about the device. The handset is said to sport a 5.2-inch screen in 2560 x 1440 display resolution.

A 2.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 that is tapped on 3GB of RAM will also be on hand, according to the benchmark, accompanied by a camera combo of 12MP rear shooter and 2MP front cam with 32GB of basic storage space.

The report, however, contradicts the recent claim that Android L is morphing into Lemon Meringue Pie or LMP once any of the Nexus 6 or Nexus 8 tablet is finalised for rollout.

No release date was mentioned in the report though Android fans are looking to an October or November outing for the Google Nexus 6, which could also take the name Nexus X if rumours prove correct that the device will be patterned after the 2014 Moto X that will start selling this late September.
