On Friday, Motorola started rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop soak update for those Moto X 2014 owners who signed up for soak testing the OS. The new Android build comes preloaded on the Nexus 6 phablet and Nexus 9 tablet.

It is well-known fact that Google prefers to release the new edition of Android OS first on its Nexus line of products. So, the Android Lollipop update was expected to hit the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 before any other Android device. However, the arrival of the OS has been delayed for these Nexus device until Nov 12 because of some issue with Wi-Fi connectivity.

New reports indicate that the Android L will arrive first on the Moto X 2014 edition. The soak test version is not the finalized version of ROM that will be globally made available to all the users, according to GSMArena. It is a near finish edition that may contain minor bugs. It further states that the Moto X Android Lollipop update brings features like Material Design UI and enhanced battery performance through Project Volta.

The soak test Android L edition is currently available only for Pure Edition of the handset. As of now, it is not known when the update will be available to users that have purchased their handsets through carriers. Geeky-Gadgets claims that it will take some more time as the update has to be approved by the carriers before it is officially made available to the users.

The Moto X 2014 is the successor model of the original Moto X smarpthone that came out in August 2013. It came out at a time when the company was incurring heavy losses because of consistent poor sales. The arrival of Moto X, the Moto G and the Moto E resurrected the performance of the company and global market share.

This year, Motorola has already launched the successor of Moto X that is referred to as Moto X 2014. Even the Moto G 2014 has arrived this year to replace the last year’s Moto G. It is yet to launch a successor model for the Moto E this year
