It's confirmed: Modern Family is going Down Under for a vacation!

The television arm of 20th Century Fox has partnered with Qantas Airlines to bring the hit comedy series to Australia for its annual vacation episode.

Some producers will head Down Under later this month to scout for locations, which may include the Great Barrier Reef, Blue Mountains and Sydney. Meanwhile, the cast and the rest of the production team will follow on February for the two-week shoot. The episode will then be aired later in the fifth season.

'We are so excited about our trip down under and we promise not to do any 'down under' jokes. We look forward to a fantastic shoot in many exotic locations,' executive producer Steve Levitan said in a statement.

But while there will be no Down Under jokes in the episode, Levitan promises to feature 'a kangaroo, a koala and a boomerang' in the plot for the most ambitious family trip episode to date.

Qantas Airlines, for their part, is also excited to further introduce Australia to the rest of the world by bringing in the TV series to the country.

'The humour of the show is a great fit with Australia's own and as the national carrier we are proud to support this innovative way of encouraging more people to fly here,' CEO Alan Joyce says.

The Emmy Award-winning series has previously had their vacation episodes in US locations such as Hawaii, Wyoming and Disneyland in Los Angeles.

At present, Modern Family is looking forward for the Golden Globes on Sunday (US time) because it raked in two nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Best Supporting Actress for Sofia Vergara.

One of the show's cast members, Eric Stonestreet is an ambassador for Australian retail chain Big W.

Modern Family airs on Fox every Wednesday and on Ten Network and Foxtel in Australia.
