Matthew Morrison, who plays as the New Direction's club director in Fox's hit TV music series Glee, honoured Cory Monteith at 54 Below in Manhattan following news of the late actor's death.

Morrison mentioned Monteith's unexpected passing on Saturday before the set began. "You guys came to see a show," he said. "I came to perform a show, so that's what we'll do. And we'll do it in Cory's honor."

The Broadway actor, who is known as Will Shuester in Glee, remembers Monteith as a brother and expressed his mourning and condolences.

He changed his opening number and sang an a capella of "What I Did For Love" from the musical "A Chorus Line" after which he gave a two-fingered salute. The song was part of second season of Glee.

Monteith, 31, was found dead in his room on the 21st floor of the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel in Vancouver on Saturday.

The official cause of his death has not been publicly revealed and an autopsy is scheduled on Monday. However, media reports suggest that the late actor died of a drug overdose.

Monteith checked himself in to rehab for substance addiction last April. His co-star and real life girlfriend Lea Michele was very proud and supportive for this step.

Michele's representative told the media that the actress was asking for privacy after receiving the news of his passing.

Monteith portrays the role of a high school football player who puts his status to risk to join the glee club. Glee is currently is in its fourth season.

Fox and the Glee producers expressed their condolences and remember Monteith as an "expectional performer and even a more exceptional person".

Other stars and friends who showed their shock, condolences and sadness over Monteith's passing were Mark Salling, Christine Chenoweth, and director Adam Shankman.
