Former Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos was supposed to move to Manchester United during the previous transfer window, but opted to head to Real Madrid after the installation of Louis van Gaal as Red Devils manager.

Former Norwegian striker Jan Aage Fjortoft made the bold revelation on social media, indicating that such came from "very good sources."

"Been told from very good sources that Toni Kroos agreed to join Man UTD. But after Moyes out - Van Gaal in: Kroos said no," he tweeted on his official Twitter handle.

The World champion joined the Los Blancos for a reported fee of £27million, while penning a deal that will see him wear the famed white shirt until June 2020.

He was key to Die Roten's treble-winning 2012/13 season under the guidance of then manager Jupp Heynckes, bagging the Bundesliga, Champions League, and DFB-Pokal trophies.

Meanwhile, he isn't doing so bad at the Santiago Bernabeu, racking up three assists in six La Liga appearances, thus far.
