The Chelsea legend, Frank Lampard, has revealed that he retired from England's International team because Luke Shaw did not know who Tony Adams is. Lampard ended his career last month after a poor display by the English side, famously known as three Lions, at this year's World Cup.

Lampard, 36, is currently on loan to Manchester City. He is a former Chelsea legend and a celebrity in England. Upon entering the latter half of his career, Lampard aims to end it on a high. He explained the shocking reasons for his retirement. He shared that he retired because Shaw, the most expensive premier league defender, did not know who Tony Adams was.

The newly signed Manchester United defender is the target of ridicule of football fans. Adams, the former Arsenal legend, retired from the international scene in 2002. Adams won four Premier League titles, becoming the only player to captain a title winning team in three different decades. He was included in the football league 100 legends, as well as played for Arsenal the entire 22 years of his career. At that point in time, Shaw was only seven years old.

Shaw is a product of Southampton youth academy and has played for two seasons at the club. He is recognised as a naturally gifted player, as well as hailed as the most expensive athlete of his age in the football world when he was transferred to Old Trafford for £30 million.

The Englishmen generally take pride in their football history. Shaw's failure to recognise one of the country's most prominent footballer appeared to have humiliated Manchester City. According to Lampard, he initially did not believe that Shaw did not know about Adams. When he eventually realised that the younger football player was actually serious about it, Lampard seriously considered retiring from the international scene. "I was having a chat with Luke Shaw and I mentioned Tony Adams and he didn't seem to know who I was talking about," said Lampard as reported by Daily Mail. "I said: 'Are you winding me up?'" Shaw then responded, "Who did he play for?" "I knew then then it was time to retire," Lampard shared.
