An image of a baby girl who was about to be beheaded by the Islamic State of Syria and Iraq militants was found among the several photos recovered from the mobile phones of dead fighters in the Syrian town of Kobani. According to the Daily Mail, one of the photos discovered by Kurdish troops showed the child pinned to the floor with a knife held close to her throat. Reports believe she was beheaded along with the other members of her family. ISIS extremists targeted them for being Alevi Muslims.

Other images found in the phones of dead ISIS fighters also showed beheadings and militants playing "football" with the decapitated heads of their victims. Kurdish YPG fighters found the photos after defending the town were over 1,100 have been killed since September.

The photo of the child was believed to have been taken last Oct. 17. The fighters who posted the photo on Facebook gave her the nickname "Melek" which means "angel." Since there were no images of the child's actual beheading along with her missing body, hope remains that she had eventually escaped death.

Meanwhile, ISIS militants released another disturbing image of boy nailed to a crucifix as punishment for taking photos of their Syrian headquarters. ISIS has publicly crucified teenager Abdullah Bushi. The 17-year-old's body was found in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, the capital of Syria.

The photo showed the boy nailed to the cross with a handwritten sign explaining his death hanging on his neck. The sign said the boy was filming ISIS headquarters in exchange for "500 Turkish Liras." ISIS also accused the boy of abandoning his faith. According to reports, the image of the crucified boy was posted on Twitter. Anti-ISIS campaigners claimed the photo was an example of ISIS' extreme and violent interpretation of Islam. Punishment by crucifixion was viewed as a fundamentalist interpretation of verse in Qu'ran.

The fighting in Kobani had intensified over the weekend as U.S. airstrikes destroyed several ISIS targets. ISIS fighters clashed with Kurdish forces. The militants had detonated two car bombs and more than 40 mortar shells, reports said.
