Instagram, the popular photo-sharing app sitting in the iTunes App Hall of Fame, is now available for Android users. It was first exclusively offered to iPhone users for the past 18 months but it has now expanded to Android-based smartphones.

Kevin Systrom, the co-founder of Instagram announced during the SXSW last March that Android users would be able to utilize this photo application soon. The "soon" part was implemented last Tuesday as Instagram was finally made available to Android users. Instagram for Android is available for free download through Google Play.

Instagram is defined as a photo enhancement app that gives people more options in regards to editing and altering photos. First-time Android users could find the following information useful when using the Instagram app:

Different Filters - Instagram has 18 different filters which users can utilize in order to create a different feel for each photo that they take. The different filter options offered by this app are something that modern cameras cannot offer to their customers. Aside from that, this app is easy to use and even occasional photo takers can find it very easy to navigate.

Sharing Option - Aside from providing photo enhancements, Instagram also has its own social network wherein users can connect to over 30 million users all over the globe. This function makes it easier to share pictures as well as in being updated to the latest news and updates. Through accessing the "popular" tab, Instagram users can keep track of popular news and latest trends.

Profile System - This option in Instagram allows users to view their photos in a simple and concise way. The photos could be viewed through a grid or list option. This function also provides information regarding the different people that you followed as well as the list of people who are following you.

Though Instagram is now available for Android users, there are some features that are missing in the Android version if compared to the iOS version. The difference is discussed in the article by Ginny Mies. According to the article, some of the features that are missing include the ability for a live preview of a filter before shooting as well as the Tilt Shift/Blur feature. The article also mentioned that downloading this app requires a big amount of storage space so it is better to clear the smartphone's storage capacity before downloading it. Users who have Android 2.2 version and below would not be able to run Instagram fully so it is better to update the Android version first before installing this app.
