Both Nokia Lumia 830 and HTC Desire 820 (successor of HTC Desire 816) were launched in September. While the Lumia 830 was released in selected markets, the Desire 820's release date is set this month. Readers who are interested in the HTC Desire 820 or the Nokia Lumia 830 should check out this comparison.

Display, Exterior And Size

The HTC Desire 820 features a phablet-like 5.5-inch LCD display complemented by 720 x 1,280 pixels resolution and 267 ppi pixel density. The Nokia Lumia 830, on the other hand, comes with a relatively smaller 5.0-inch IPS LCD display, but the resolution is the same as the HTC handset, and the pixel density is 294 ppi.

As far as the design goes, the HTC Desire 820 comes with a bold, vivid and sleek design. HTC has implemented the double-shot colour technology to get the two-tone colour unibody. This technology improves the overall look and quality of the device. Similar to other mid-range smartphones, the Desire handset is also made of polycarbonate material, says HTC. On the other hand, the Nokia Lumia 830 employs the same design philosophy as the other Lumia handsets. However, the device features a strong metallic frame on the sides of the plastic exterior, providing a rock-solid, sleek outlook. At first look, the corners of the handset might look flat; however, the edges are slightly curved. Also, the Lumia 830 provides good grip through the matte-effect laden back panel, writes TOI.

In terms of size, the thickness and the weight of the Nokia handset are 0.33-inch and 150 g respectively, whereas the HTC device is 0.30-inch thick and weighs 155 g. Hence, the Desire 820 is thinner, while the Lumia 830 is lighter.

Hardware, Software And Memory

The Lumia 830 is powered by a quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 400) Cortex-A7 processor, clocked at 1.2 GHz and Adreno 305 GPU. The Desire 820 is powered by the latest octa-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 615) 64-bit processor, clocked at a killer combination of four 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 cores and additional four 1.0 GHz Cortex-A53 cores and the latest Adreno 405 for graphics. While the Nokia handset is backed by 1 GB of RAM, the HTC device comes with a good 2 GB RAM configuration. Furthermore, the Lumia 830 runs on Windows Phone 8.1 OS, whereas the Desire 820 runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat with HTC Sense 6 UI.

When it comes to memory, both devices offer the same 16 GB of internal storage capacity. In addition, the handsets support microSD card for expansion up to 128 GB.

Camera And Battery

The Desire 820 sports a good 13 MP rear-facing camera unit with LED flash and a killer 8 MP snapper at the front for selfies. On the other hand, the Lumia 830 houses a killer 10 MP PureView unit complemented by Carl Zeiss optics, LED flash and OIS support. The Nokia device also houses a 0.9 MP secondary snapper. The PureView camera unit in Lumia 830 supports speedy shooting and has the unique "Moment Capture" and "Rich Capture" features. Moving on to the battery, the HTC smartphone is backed by Li-Po 2600 mAh unit, whereas the Nokia device houses a relatively inferior Li-Ion 2200 mAh battery.
