The Google Glass which was once one of the most awaited gadgets is now losing popularity. On Friday, rumours started swirling on the web that developers who were aiming to make big money by building apps for Google Glass are losing interest altogether.

Reuters had spoken with 16 developers and came to a conclusion that the most of them had given up their plans to make apps for the Google Glass. Some of the reasons why developers are not interesting in making apps for the wearable gadget are that customers are not really interested in acquiring the device and it is packed with unimpressive hardware specifications. Also, developers are interested in working on making apps for business and not for consumer projects.

In the past six months, several important employees who were working on Google Glass have quit the firm, such as Babak Parrviz who is an ace developer, Ossama Alami, developer relations manager and so on. Also, a major funding program called Glass Collective started by Google Ventures along with highly popular capitalists like Kliener Perkins Caufield & Byers and Adreesen Horowitz have shut down their website without any intimation and those access the website are routed to main website of Google Glass.

Still, the search engine giant says that it is very committed with the Google Glass project as numerous engineers are working on the wearable gadget. According to Inquisitr, the Google Glass project was launched in 2012 and on trial basis. At that time, the wearable gadget was sold at a whopping price of USD 1500 per piece. However, the source claims that the Google Glass may not be available for general public for purchase until next year.

The term 'Glasshole' came into existence after several Google Glass users reportedly thrown out of bars, barred from watching movie at theaters citing piracy issue and fined by traffic police for using it will driving. Google has been asking developers to build Google Glass app but the lack of interest from developers indicate the popularity of the device is moving downside, claims The Register. The co-founder of Google, Sergey Brin was of the view that the high-tech specs who launch in this year but it seems that the Google Glass will arrive in 2015.
