The original "Five Nights at Freddy's" was considered a breath of fresh air to fans of the horror game genre after games like "Dead Space" and "Resident Evil" turned their focus on action and gunplay rather than survival and horror. The first game had the player be a monitor duty security guard on his or her graveyard shift for a kid's themed restaurant filled with furry mascots that would come to life at night, the goal of the security guard was to survive the night from the animatronics by using whatever means necessary. Since the player is on monitor duty they can lock doors and close lights to confuse the living mascots; however electricity is limited and must be conserved for running out can lead to the player's downfall.

A sequel was released just three months later with a new guard and new psychotic animatronics out to kill him. Now a third game has been teased from the developer's site featuring a haunting image of one of the mascots with glowing eyes and text stating, "I am still here." This suggests that one or more of the homicidal animatronics from the previous games could be returning to stalk the returning player.

Given that the sequel only took three months before release it's no surprise that a third iteration of the now booming indie franchise so quickly. Developer Scott Cawthon has proven he can release these games fairly quickly so in hindsight a third game was inevitable and this does not seem to be a problem for many gamers. The site Arcade Sushi stated that both games were the best horror games of 2014, even beating out the highly anticipated "The Evil Within."

Both games are available from the Apple application store and Steam. As of right now there has been no release date revealed for the game, though that could easily change in a few days given how fast the first sequel was released. Fan reaction to the news continues to be positive, though it remains to be seen if the third game will be praised for doing what it does best or get lambasted and criticised for being the same old thing.
