The original cast of "Fargo" will not feature in Season 2. Both Colin Hanks and Allison Tolman are not returning to reprise their roles as Officer Gus Grimly and Deputy Molly Solverson, respectively, in "Fargo" Season 2. Hanks has said that the format of telling a 10-episode story in one season and telling a different story in the next season is "compelling."

In an interview with The Wrap, Hanks said, "the idea of being able to tell one specific story for 10 episodes and then going to another time and telling a different story is very compelling." He believes that this is the reason why the first season was good. He said that if they stretched Season 1, without a finite number of episodes, it would be called "CSI: Fargo."

Meanwhile, Tolman is sad that she is not doing Season 2. She said to Laura Kane of The Canadian Press, "I'm so sad to not be going back with them because it was such an incredible golden time for me." She said that she is "thankful" and "thrilled" for the opportunity that "Fargo" opened up for her.

Tolman is not returning but the character of Molly is likely to make an appearance in "Fargo" Season 2. As previously reported, the upcoming Season 2 is set in 1979. Molly's father Lou Solverson is going to play one of the principal characters. Keith Carradine is not returning to portray Lou, as a younger actor is going to be roped in to play the character. Lou's wife, Betsy, and father-in-law, sheriff of Rock County, are going to make an appearance in "Fargo" Season 2. The new season will be revealing what happened to Molly's mother.

Grimly's commanding officer, Lt. Ben Schmidt, will also be part of the new season, as he was present in Sioux Falls in the year 1979. The grisly events in the new season will be taking place around Luverne, Minnesota and Fargo and Sioux Falls.

The production on "Fargo" Season 2 has yet to start.
