In the final press conference before their highly anticipated match-up on Saturday, both Gennady Golovkin of Kazakhstan and David Lemieux of Canada showed great respect for each other but promised to deliver their best when they take the ring to battle for supremacy in the middleweight division.

"This is the biggest test for me. He's the IBF champ. It's big situation, unification, Pay-Per-View,” Golovkin said in the press conference via badlefthook.com. “Right now it's a very interesting situation to be in in the middleweight division. I think we have three or four fighters and it's very important who is number one."

Other top fighters in the middleweight division are Miguel Cotto, who will have his own big fight later this year against Canelo Alvarez, Peter Quillin and Andy Lee. Lemieux is ranked behind those names but promised a worthy performance on Saturday against Golovkin.

“What I have done with the degree of the fight and the intensity for this fight, I know I have to be better than I was for N'Dam,” Lemieux said in the press conference, referring to Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam, whom the Canadian beat last June 20 to win the International Boxing Federation (IBF) middleweight title. "I am aware of his record but I am also aware of who I am and what I can bring to the table. My concern is the present and making sure I win on Oct. 17. I am going to be a lion in there. Nothing is going to be in my way.”

Golovkin enters the fight with an undefeated record of 33-0-0 with 30 knockouts while Lemieux is at 34-2-0 and also with an impressive knockout rate with 31 wins not going the distance.

The Golovkin vs Lemieux fight will be for the multiple middleweight titles, Lemieux’s IBF belt and Golovkin’s World Boxing Association (WBA) championship plus the International Boxing Organization (IBO) and interim World Boxing Championship (WBC) titles.
