Tom Keen’s (Ryan Eggold) return as the main player in “The Blacklist” Season 2 is what the viewers wanted, as Red (James Spader) and Liz’s (Megan Boone) storyline was failing to hold the interest. Tom may once again become the mysterious man with an ulterior motive or he may become the key that unlocks some of Red's mysteries.

The upcoming episodes will see Tom pitted against a “frightening group of men,” according to Entertainment Weekly report. Also, details about Red and Tom’s relationship are going to be revealed soon. Eggold has said to Tv.com that Tom knows a lot more about Red than Liz.

The recent two episodes put the spotlight on Tom. It was revealed that Liz’s fake husband was an orphan and his real name is Jacob. The Major aka Bud McCready (Lance Henriksen) picked him up from the streets when he was a young boy. Jacob was into stealing and displayed delinquent tendencies. He was in and out of foster homes. McCready took him under his wings and trained him to be a deep-cover operative. Tom can play anything and with perfection.

The episode 16 of “The Blacklist” Season 2, titled “Tom Keen,” saw Tom returning to D.C and confessing in front of Judge Denner that he killed the harbourmaster, not Liz. Thomas Connolly (Reed Birney) intervened, as Tom’s arrest would have jeopardised the task force. Tom was not arrested despite his confession.

It was revealed in episode 15 that Red was the one who first hired Tom to spy on Liz but he went to Berlin when he doubled Red’s payment. However, the juicy bits about Red and Tom’s relationship have not yet been revealed. One of the upcoming episodes is set to explain Tom and Red’s relationship. Eggold told Tv.com, “Tom knows a great deal about Red, certainly more than Liz knows. That will come into play.”

Also, as Tom walked out on his new assignment to save Liz, he seems to have made a new set of enemies. Jon Bokenkamp, creator of “The Blacklist,” said to EW that Tom’s new assignment “may unravel in an unhealthy way.” In one of the upcoming episodes, Tom is likely to be seen pitted against “a rather frightening group of men.”
