Beatles’ former drummer Ringo Starr has recently revealed that he spent the last two decades in a drunken haze, upset by the breakup of one of the most iconic rock ‘n roll bands in the music scene. The revered musician says he turned to drinking after the band’s dissolution left him feeling lost.

In an interview with The Times, the 74-year-old musician shared that the Beatle’s split has taken its toll on him, as he spent the 1970’s and ‘80s getting boozed up. “I was mad,” he said, as quoted by NY Daily News. "For 20 years. I had breaks in between of not being." The years following the group’s dissolution were also the times when Starr, born Richard Starkey Jr., launched his solo career. He also narrated children’s series “Thomas & Friends,” and even played Mr. Conductor on the show’s U.S. spinoff “Shining Time Station.” However, the Liverpool native admitted that he does not even remember those years, which he thought went by in a blur. “I didn’t notice ... some of those years are absolutely gone,” he said.

The Fab Four drummer finally decided to check into rehab in 1988 with his wife, actress Barbara Bach. In an interview with People, he admitted to having problems for years, feeling “absolutely lost” after his band went separate ways. He calls alcohol “very cunning and baffling,” with the way it “plays tricks with your head,” as quoted by The Huffington Post.

However, things are now looking up for the highly-acclaimed musician. He has recently released his solo album “Postcards From Paradise,” and has continued to tour with his All-Starr Band even at a ripe age. Moreover, he will finally be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as the last of the Beatles to enter as an individual artist. Former band mate Paul McCartney, who Starr credits as the one who spoke to him about entering the Hall of Fame as a solo artist, will be doing the induction honors. All the three of his former Beatles band mates have long since became a part of the prestigious hall as solo artists, and Starr shall receive his own entry on April 18, alongside Green Day, Joan Jett, Lou Reed, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. He also revealed that he is turned into a new healthy lifestyle; he is now a vegetarian who likes eating a lot of kale, broccoli, and berries.

Next summer will mark the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ final concert, which was held on Aug. 29, 1996 at the Candlestick Park in San Francisco. The influential band announced their big breakup on April 9, 1970, which devastated millions of rock ‘n roll followers all around the world.
