The first episode of "American Horror Story" Season 4, which is subtitled "Freak Show," is called "Monsters Among Us." The synopsis of this episode has been released. It does not reveal much about the storyline of the first episode but talks about a sideshow that is finding it difficult to survive in an era when television has started to capture its audience's attention. A window of opportunity opens up because of a terrifying discovery at a local farmhouse.

"American Horror Story-Freak Show" is set in 1952 in Jupiter, Florida. According to the official synopsis of "Monsters Among Us": "One of the only surviving sideshows in the country struggles to stay in business during the dawning era of television. When police make a terrifying discovery at a local farmhouse, the eccentric purveyor of the freak show sees an opportunity that will lead her troupe either to their salvation or ruin."

Jessica Lange is playing the German ex-pat, Elsa Mars, who manages the freak show. She has been rescuing the freak circus performers from the hospitals and jails and does everything to keep the show running. Sarah Paulson is playing Dot and Bette Tattler, the conjoined twins with two heads. She may be responsible for some of the dark activities that are taking place in the town. Paulson's characters become the main attraction of the sideshow as people start pouring in to see these odd girls. Kathy Bates is playing the right hand woman of Elsa Mars' character. Her character is called Ethel Darling and she will be seen sporting a beard.

Meanwhile, Michael Chiklis is playing the strongman Wendell dell Toledo and this character's wife is the three-breasted woman, Angela Bassett. Evan Peters' character is called Jimmy Darling and he will be seen as the "big man on the campus." Maggie, played by Emma Roberts, is the woman with the crystal ball and she is a con-artist. Denis O' Hare is playing Stanley who and he is a collector of freaks. John Carroll Lynch has been roped in to play the most terrifying clown of all time. This clown is called "Twisty the Clown."

Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have written the first episode of "American Horror Story-Freak Show." Ryan Murphy has directed this episode.

"American Horror Story" Season 4 is scheduled to premiere on Oct. 08, 2014.
