European champions France must be really missing the services of San Antono Spurs point guard Tony Parker as it struggled mightily in Day 1 of the FIBA Basketball World Cup. The French bowed to a relatively improved Brazil by two points, 65-63 in a low scoring affair that was uncharacteristically sloppy on both sides. Now, one of the favorites in Group A is scrambling to avoid a 0-2 hole as it faces Serbia in tonight's game in Palacio Municipal de Deportes de Granada.

France actually had a chance to win the game but Boris Diaw's last second heave was miffed. The Eurobasket champions had a hard time containing Marcelino Huertas who had his way in the final salvo, pouring in 11 of his team high 18 points. Now Diaw, along with Portland Trailblazers starter Nicolas Batum, Rudy Gobert and Michael Gelabale, will have to provide the offense in order to outshine a sweet shooting Serbian squad. Denver Nuggets guard Evan Fournier was not also given much opportunity after being fielded for only eight minutes and producing zero points.

Serbia is coming off a high note as it easily dispatched Egypt in its other match on Saturday. Their versatile offense was on full display last night as twelve different players tallied a point in the score sheet. They will still rely on veterans Nenad Krstic and Namanja Bjelica to man the shaded area while former European Player of the Year Milos Teodosic and sweet shooting Bogdan Bogdanovic will provide the outside sniping.

Anticipate France's grit and determination to take this as it would be an embarrassment if the Eurobasket winners would be staring at a 0-2 hole this early in the tournament.
