"Scrubs" star Zach Braff will make his Broadway debut next year performing the role of an aspiring playwright in Woody Allen's musical adaptation of "Bullets Over Broadway". John Cusack originally played the role onscreen in 1994.

This is the second time that the Golden Globe and Emmy-Award nominated actor will be working with Allen. "It's thrilling," he said. "I keep waking up expecting it to be a dream." Braff played as Allen's son in the 1993 comedy murder mystery film "Manhattan Murder Mystery".

The new musical will be directed and choreographed by five-time Tony winner Susan Stroman. She also directed another film-to-stage production "The Producers", which won her a Tony Award.

Set in the 1920s, Braff's character, the young and struggling playwright David Shayne comes to New York and was forced to cast a mobster's talentless girlfriend to get his latest drama produced. Vincent Pastore of HBO's "The Sopranos" will play the role of the mobster boss while Helene Yorke (Grease) plays the talentless girlfriend, the role originated by Jennifer Tilly.

Braff has performed in theatre before, in Paul Weitz' "Trust" at Second Stage Theatre. In addition, he has written a play titled "All New People", which had its world premiere at the same theatre company.

The "Garden State" actor revealed that his dad is more excited about his Broadway performance. "If my father loved two things most, it was Woody Allen movies and Broadway musicals," he said.

Braff is also busy with his Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for his second feature, "Wish I Was Here", a follow up to 2004's "Garden State".

"Bullets Over Broadway" will begin its previews at the St. James Theater on March 11 and opening night scheduled on April 10 in 2014.
