After a string of successful regional shows, "A Night With Janis Joplin" musical that pays homage to the late-'60s Queen of Rock n' Roll Janis Joplin is headed to Broadway.

"A Night With Janis Joplin" depicts Joplin's rise from an unhappy girl in Port Arthur, Texas to one of the most iconic legends of rock in music history.

It stars Mary Bridget Davies as Joplin, who also appeared in earlier productions in Washington, Pasadena, Portland, Cleveland and Milwaukee.

Davies, who won the role in 2005, was chosen among 150 actresses to play as Joplin. She has appeared in other musical productions such as "It Ain't Nothin' But the Blues" and "Love, Janis", another Joplin Musical.

The musical tribute features a live onstage band that will perform Joplin classic hits such as "Piece of My Heart", "Mercedes Benz", "Me and Bobby McGee", "Ball and Chain" and "Summertime".

Joplin shot to fame in 1967 when she performed her rendition of Big Mama Thornton's "Ball and "Chain" at the Monterey International Pop Festival. She died in Hollywood in 1970 because of heroin overdose.

"A Night With Janis Joplin" was written and directed by Randy Johnson and will begin its preview at the Lyceum Theatre on September 20.
