The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took a detour from their official Canadian tour itinerary to visit Slave Lake in Alberta, a town ruined by a forest fire.

The Royal Couple took the time to visit the ravaged town of Slave Lake in Alberta to sympathize with the community after the wind-swept fire that happened last May 15. Over 400 houses and business establishments were reduced to ashes and the couple was there to talk to residents and town leaders. William and Kate were greeted by the Premier of Alberta and Slave Lake's mayor. The couple looked at burnt vehicles, houses and properties that lay on the street, with a slight pause after each stop to talk to different residents. The Duke and Duchess also discussed the current situation of Slave Lake with the town leaders as a part of their royal responsibilties.

After visiting the fire-ridden town, the Royal Couple will move on to Northern Lakes College to greet emergency servicemen such as folks from the Canadian Mounted Police, Canadian Fire Brigade and the able medical response team responsible for treating those injured from the mid-May calamity.

The couple is expected to end their Canadian tour on Juy 8th and will board on a plane that will take them to Hollywood, California.
