Australian acts Tame Impala, Keith Urban and Hiatus Kaiyote are nominated for the Grammy Awards in the United States.

Rock trio Tame Impala scores the Grammy's Best Alternative Album nomination for their album "Lonerism." They have to best out Nine Inch Nails, The National, Vampire Weekend and Neko Case for the award in this category.

Just last weekend, the band was one of the big winners in Australia's ARIA Awards, where they won Best Group, as well as the Best Rock Album and Album of the Year for their debut album.

Meanwhile, country singer Keith Urban was nominated for the Best Country Duo/Group Performance category for his collaboration with Tim McGraw and Taylor Swift for the song "Highway Don't Care." The performance has to best out The Civil Wars' "From This Valley," Kelly Clarkson and Vince Gill's "Don't Rush," Little Big Town's "Your Side of Bed" and Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton's "You Can't Make Old Friends" to get the award.

Last Friday, Urban and R&B singer Miguel performed in the Grammy nomination concert with their rendition of Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine."

The most surprising of all Aussie nominations went to Melbourne-based group Hiatus Kaiyote, whose collaboration with hip hop legend Q Tip in the song Nakamarra landed them a nomination for Best R&B Performance. They have to top off Tamar Braxton's "Love and War," Anthony Hamilton's "Best of Me," Miguel and Kendrick Lamar's "How Many Drinks" and Snarky Puppy and Lalla Hathaway's "Something" for the award.

Also in the nominations list was teenage singer Lorde who raked in a total of four Grammy nominations. Her track "Royals" gave her two nominations and her debut album "Pure Heroine" gave her a nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album. Her nomination also made quite of a stir after the Grammys official website described Lorde as Australian though she is actually a Kiwi.

The Grammy Awards will be held on January 26 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
