Stone Temple Pilots' North American tour with new vocalist Chester Bennington kicks off on Sept 4. Several lucky fans and members of the press were treated at an early performance of the band during their rehearsal on Sept 1 in San Fernando Valley.

The band performed their well-known hits and favourites from their previous albums with Bennington giving his best to give a unique take on each songs. Loudwire reported that "one of the songs that proved to be the most seamless transitions between former frontman Scott Weiland and Bennington is the performance of the hit ‘Trippin’ on a Hole in a Paper Heart,’ which feels like it was tailor made for Bennington."

They opened the rehearsal show with Sex and Violence from the No. 4 album, followed by Pop's Love Suicide from the Tiny Music album.

Bassist Robert DeLeo praised the Linkin Park vocalist after performing their latest single Out of Time. "You know what I noticed about you? You can sing," he said to Bennington with a smile.

They ended their set with Piece of Pie from their 1992 debut album Core, followed by Church on Tuesday. Their North American fall tour ends in November.

Meanwhile, their EP High Rise is slated for release on Oct 5 under STP's Play Pen/ADA label, according to Billboard. The five-song EP includes their first single Out of Time, Black Heart, Same on the Inside, Cry Cry and Tomorrow.

Bennington was officially announced as Stone Temple Pilots in May after Weiland was kicked out of the band in February.

The remaining members sued their former frontman, accusing him of using the STP identity to advance his solo career. Weiland countersued for $7 million, asking the judge to stop them from using the name of the band.

"Not sure how I can be 'terminated' from a band that I founded," he said.
