British actor Charlie Rowe proves that he’s a good sport for not getting the coveted role of Spider-Man. After Marvel and Sony Pictures announced the casting news earlier this week, Rowe took to Twitter to congratulate his pal Tom Holland for landing the Marvel role.

Charlie Rowe took to Twitter on Wednesday to congratulate Holland on the Marvel casting, reports E!News. The actor wrote, "Well done @TomHolland1996, glad that tom's a mate, pleased for him. I thought I could've made quite a good spiderman." He included an adorable childhood picture of himself dressed as Spider-Man.

More than 1,500 actors tested for the role of Spider-Man. The list was narrowed down to six and finally to two, with Tom Holland and Charlie Rowe as final contenders. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Holland was the frontrunner among the two and was the only actor who tested separately with Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, who plays Iron Man and Captain America respectively. The producers and studio chiefs were looking for chemistry between the young star and the veteran Avenger heroes, since the new Spider-Man will be making his debut in the upcoming Marvel movie ‘Captain America: Civil War.’ It seems that Iron Man will also be making an appearance in the Marvel film and will reportedly share scenes with Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures announced the casting news on Tuesday morning, stating that the studios and producers were impressed by Holland’s screen tests and the actor’s performances in "The Impossible," "Wolf Hall" and the upcoming film "In the Heart of the Sea." Sony Pictures Motion Pictures Group Chairman Tom Rothman even commented on the announcement, saying, “It’s a big day here at Sony… The Marvel process is very thorough, and that’s why their results are so outstanding. I’m confident Spider-Man will be no exception. I’ve worked with a number of up-and-coming directors who have gone on to be superstars and believe that Jon is just such an outstanding talent. For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom’s screen tests were special. All in all, we are off to a roaring start.”

Marvel’s latest addition to the Spider-Man franchise will be directed by Jon Watts and is expected to hit theaters on July 28, 2017.
