It’s still two months before “The Real Housewives of Sydney” makes its debut on the small screen, but it’s already becoming a hotbed of controversy.

The reality show, a spin-off of the American series “The Real Housewives,” is the third instalment by Matchbox Entertainment after “The Real Housewives of Melbourne” and “The Real Housewives of Auckland.” The Sydney franchise is set to air on Foxtel’s Arena Channel on Feb. 26, 2017, according to a report by TV Week.

Earlier in July, “The Real Housewives of Sydney” cast has been revealed, composed of seven millionaire matriarchs. Fans can watch out for the dramatic, chaotic and lavish lifestyles of Athena Levendi, Melissa Tkautz, Krissy Marsh, Victoria Rees, Nicole O’Neil, Lisa Oldfield and Matty Samaei.

On the week of the cast announcement, “The Real Housewives of Melbourne” star Gamble Breaux reportedly slammed her Sydney rivals. “The fact is Sydney is brassy, but Melbourne is gold,” Breaux was quoted as saying by Herald Sun. “From my experience with some of the women I have known from the eastern suburbs of Sydney, they are well-dressed — then again not that well dressed — but they are completely feral.”

The 43-year-old contemporary art collector and consultant added that she will have to watch the series to see if the rumours about the Sydney cast hold water. “I will have to tune in to see if any are coming across better than what I have heard through the grapevine,” she said.

The wife of Victoria-based eye surgeon Dr Richard Wolfe specifically named two housewives to watch out for. “My intel is that Lisa from Sydney is all bark but no bite — she is actually an OK chick — but Melissa was very rude to one of my friends recently so the jury is out on her,” she revealed.

Lisa Oldfield, married to former politician David Oldfield, is a savvy tech guru, businesswoman, world traveller and media commentator. Melissa Tkautz, on the other hand, is an ARIA award-winning singer, model and actress.
