In what could be considered an irony, Juma, a tiger at the Queensland zoo bit the hand of its handler on Tuesday, which is International Tiger Day.

The victim, 42-year-old Mark Turner, suffered a bite on the leg while moving the beast to a new area. The 10-year-old animal, which weighs 130 kilogrammes, is a male Sumatran tiger. It was born in captivity in New South Wales and is known for its laid-back personality and considered an ideal animal for movies.

The first attack in November 2013 involved a different tiger called Charlie, a 114-kilogramme Bengal tiger that was over excited during a tiger show and bit handler Dave Style's neck and shoulder. As a result, Style had to recuperate for several months while his wounds were healing.

Turner has a tooth puncture wound but is fine, The zoo provided him first aid, Australia Zoo announced on Twitter. The family of deceased crocodile hunter Steve Irwin owns the zoo. Juma is also well, it added.

Turner underwent emergency surgery at the Numbour Hospital on the Sunshine Coast.
