The beautiful Moscow is the host city for Miss Universe 2013, and if you are planning to attend the event in person then you can explore this lovely city. Here are 5 things you must do apart from enjoying the fashion event this November.

1. St. Basil's Cathedral:

Known as the icon of Russia, St. Basil's Cathedral is an architectural marvel and is situated at the southern end of Red Square. The unique design clubbed with mind-boggling colour patterns define Russian architecture. Ivan the Terrible commissioned this iconic church, officially as the Intercession Cathedral, after he occupied the Tatar bastion on the feast of Intercession.

2. GUM and TSUM:

GUM (pronounced as goom) and TSUM (pronounced as tsoom) are the biggest and most expensive shopping malls in Russia. It is believed that if you have loads and loads of money to splurge, you can come and visit these over-the-top malls. But you can always stop by and admire the architectural beauty of GUM and TSUM and after hours of window shopping you can visit Café Tsum.

3. 35 MM:

35 MM is one of Moscow's most celebrated cinemas and they play foreign films in the original language. The cinema runs until late at night and is situated at the corner of Pokrovka Ulitsa and Garden Ring. Russian and Soviet film fanatics have been visiting this place for decades now. You will not witness stadium-like seating or surround sound, but you will experience the rich history of 35 MM.

4. Gorky Park:

You cannot miss this park which is known as the place where Martin Cruz Smith set his novel. The place is more than the novel, you can take a nice walk along the Moscow River. The locals come here for picnic, singing, cavorting, drinking and more. An Uzbek restaurant Chihana is worth trying, you can order for the delicious lamb dishes with red wine. To visit Chihana, proceed toward the river, walk past the Ferris Wheel, continue to walk parallel to the river until you reach the restaurant.

5. 16 Tons:

16 Tons is known to be one of the hottest clubs for live music in Moscow. Both local and foreign bands come and play here in front of a packed house. The English pub-restaurant has one of finest home-brewed beverages.

There are numerous other places in Moscow which we will cover in the forthcoming episodes of this series called "Things to do in Moscow Apart From Enjoying Miss Universe 2013."
