Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal called Robin van Persie "stupid" after the latter took off his shirt following a stunning late equalising goal against Chelsea.

Didier Drogba, who started in lieu of unavailable first-choice striker Diego Costa and Loic Remy, opened the scoreline thirteen minutes, meeting the ball with his head following Cesc Fabregas a corner.

"It was a stupid reaction after the goal," said the 63-year-old.

"I can see he was excited but after he was booked it was not so smart."

The Red Devils were apparently able to take advantage of the sending off of Branislav Ivanovic on the 90th minute, as Van Persie was left unmarked inside the box just four minutes later, after Marouane Fellaini's header was parried by David de Gea.

Nevertheless, the Dutch mentor was pleased with how his side kept their composure to get a positive result despite trailing until, literally, the very last minute.

Chelsea tried to kill the game, they made the pitch big and we had to run a lot but we fought till the end.

"When we scored it was deserved. We created a lot of chances - far more than Chelsea," he added.

"After they scored we lost our heads, but we played very, very well."

Meanwhile, Blues Boss Jose Mourinho admitted that he was frustrated over some crucial calls made by the referee during the match, but refused to elaborate on such to avoid causing unwanted troubles.

"When five "flash" interviews ask me about the sending-off it is obvious why. I cannot speak about the decisions, even though it was a mistake, because you know what happens when I speak," said the Portuguese.
