Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal recently revealed that key midfielder Ander Herrera will be joining the squad this week.

It is a welcome development for Van Gaal's short-handed squad, as the former Athletic Bilbao man has proven that he can be an asset on the pitch when healthy, scoring goals and dishing out assists on numerous occasions.

"We still have four injuries, and Marouane Fellaini is ill. Angel Di Maria, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Ander Herrera are currently out," said the 63-year-old Dutchman.

"Ander will be coming back this week."

Herrera earlier disclosed his condition through his Instagram account that he is suffering from a minor knock.

"Well done mates! One more point to keep us in the top positions. I could not help the team due to a small muscular problem, but I will be ready again soon. Cheers to everyone!" He posted.

Still recovering from a tiring festive schedule, LVG's charges are set to face a tough challenge in Stoke City on New Year's Day at the Brittania Stadium.
