The San Francisco 49ers continue to overlook Jarryd Hayne as the team’s primary punt returner despite several errors from teammate Bruce Ellington, who replaced the Australian rugby league star at the punt return job.

Special teams coach Thomas McGaughey has given Ellington a final warning prior to the 49ers' 26-20 win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday, saying that the 24-year-old wide receiver could lose his job if he commits another fumble on the field. However, McGaughey seemed to keep Ellington in the 49ers’ starting lineup.

“It’s about getting the problem fixed and at the end of the day, that’s what we’re about,” McGaughey said, reports Fox Sports. “We’re in the problem-solving business and that’s why they call us coach, we’ve got to solve problems.”

Hayne was sacked from his punt returning job last month after muffing three punts in six games NFL regular season games. But despite the setback, the 27-year-old rookie is still optimistic about playing in the 49ers’ remaining four games.

"I'm very confident, so much more confident than when I was out on the field before,” Hayne told the Sydney Morning Herald. “It put me in good stead, my biggest thing is just training hard and what comes about, comes about."

Meanwhile, Jack Bechta, who helped Hayne to transition from rugby league to American football, is reportedly in talks with several players who competed in this year’s Rugby World Cup. According to the Telegraph, Bechta had “several high-level discussions” with a handful of the best rugby players in the world. The report also added that eight players has been identified as potential NFL talent.

“I think the fact that Jarryd was one of the best of the best got everyone’s attention,” Bechta said. “Once people saw that he had initial success it probably got some rugby league and rugby union players thinking that if he can do it so can I.”
