Chinese-based firm Huawei seems intent in becoming known as a high-end smartphone manufacturer as it unveiled its newest model which is known as the Huawei Ascend D Quad.

The Huawei Ascend D quad was first revealed during the recently concluded Mobile World Congress 2012. It was part of the company's Ascend "Platinum" line which features high-end smartphones. Huawei claims that this smartphone model is one of the fastest smartphones in the market.

The Huawei Ascend D Quad has dimensions of 129 x 64 x 8.9 mm and weighs around 130g. It also has a 4.5-inch screen with 1280 x 720 pixels touchscreen OLED display. This smartphone also features a 1.5GHz quad-core CPU, 1000 MB of RAM, and 8MP rear camera. It also has 1,800mAh battery which enables the device to work 30% faster as compared to average smartphones. The Ascend D Quad also has the usual connectivity options which include HSDPA, HSUPA, Bluetooth, and WLAN. As for its OS, it will utilize the latest Android version which is Android 4.0 or Android ICS.

Richard Yu, Chairman for Huawei was the one who introduced this model during the Mobile World Congress 2012 which was held in Barcelona, Spain. According to Chairman Yu, the Ascend D Quad "is much faster, too- 20 percent to 30 percent faster, in fact, than one running the Tegra 3". This is a very big claim and experts are typically skeptical about this kind of claim. Instead, they would like to wait for the actual hands-on experience before making a comment. The Chairman also unveiled other models for this line which includes the Ascend Quad XL and Ascend D1. The Ascend Quad XL is the "big brother" of the Ascend D Quad. Both phones have the same specifications though the Ascend Quad XL has a 2,500mAh battery. On the other hand, the D1 will have 1.5GHz dual-core CPU and 1,670mAh battery.

There are actually mixed reviews about Huawei's efforts to offer a high-end smartphone in the market. Some experts are satisfied about the display quality of the mobile device as well as its audio performance. These features enable users to have a better viewing experience. On the other hand, not everything was flaw-free during its reveal in the MWC 2012 as it skipped some frames during the viewing. Despite these comments, many experts are reserving their judgment once the phone becomes available in the market. A review from CNET states commented that "The Ascend D quad could be held back by its UI and the company's low-key image as an infrastructure provider. Huawei still has a long way to go in the high-end Android market, but the company is definitely on the right track."

No specific details about its selling price has been revealed but it will be available in different parts of the world like China, Australia, Europe, Asia Pacific, Middle East, North America, and South America by the middle of the year.
