On Sunday, Fernando Alonso revealed that neither Ferrari nor him said that they have ended his contract already. After Red Bull closed its doors for the Spaniard Formula 1 driver in the wake of Sebastian Vettel's shocking exit, Alonso is said to have been caught off guard. Now, the 33-year-old is linked with McLaren-Honda, Lotus and Williams next year, while coveting a spot at dominant Mercedes.

Surprisingly, in the previous Russian Grand Prix event, Alonso declared that he will not be driving by a Mercedes engine next season. But then again, Spain's Marca claimed that Ron Dennis is taking advantage of the situation and demanding years of commitment according to Motor Sport.

"My future is already set; we are finalising the details; you will know soon," the Spaniard continued to be cryptic at last weekend's event according to Here is the City. However, Alonso made a couple of comments in Sochi that hints his plans for 2015 and beyond.

"I don't think so," Alonso replied when he was asked by NBC about the possibility of driving a Mercedes-powered car in 2015. Apparently, the word "think" means a lot and it leaves him the safe distance if ever the ends up with the German marque unit. Assuming that his statement is accurate, his only options are Force India and Lotus. But then again, the two teams will have a hard time to pay his sky-high wage of €20 million per season.

"When you know the options, you will say 'it was so obvious," Alonso further added. Basically, ruling out Mercedes teams does not make the options clear. Renault-powered car is out of the question, Red Bull has already confirmed its line-up, a Toro Rosso seat is improbable for his age and even Caterham is a too great challenge.

With seven teams ruled out, it is still highly unlikely that he will be driving a Ferrari next season. Although Alonso has pointed out that the split with Ferrari is just a rumour, he is clearly negotiating with a rival team.
