File this under the weird and strange section, but a National Football League (NFL) player from the Dallas Cowboys, running back Joseph Randle has been caught shoplifting at a mall— for stealing underwear and cologne.

The embarrassing incident was reported to have happened on Monday when Frisco City police in Texas arrested the Cowboys running back after they were called to the Dillard’s store at the Stonebriar Mall in Frisco City.

Randle, who was officially charged with a Class B misdemeanour theft, was released from the Frisco City Jail on Tuesday morning after posting a bond of $350.

As a result, NFL and sports fans on Twitter took their best shots in criticising the 22-year-old Randle.

Important question yet to be answered about Joseph Randle arrest: boxers or briefs? Boxer briefs?

I wonder if Joseph Randle hid the underwear in his underwear. — Cowboys Nation (@CowboysNation) October 14, 2014

I don't think this is what Jerry Jones meant by Joseph Randle getting more touches.

To be fair to Joseph Randle, I wouldn't pay those prices for Polo underwear either. — Peyton's Head (@PeytonsHead) October 14, 2014

Maybe it's just me, but this Joseph Randle accusation doesn't make scents.

According to reports, Randle’s stolen items were a tester bottle of Gucci Black cologne valued at $84 and a Polo underwear worth $39.40. Randle signed a 4-year $2.35 million contract with the Dallas Cowboys after being drafted in the 5th round of the 2013 NFL Draft. His annual average salary is $587,205 and is in second year of the deal.

Not only is the arrest for shoplifting embarrassing for Joseph Randle and the Dallas Cowboys, which is on a five-game winning streak, it also came at the most inopportune time: the Dallas running back was coming off one of the best games in his career— a 52 rushing yards performance in their Week 6 30-23 victory over the Super Bowl champions Seattle Seahawks last Sunday.
