In a match that brought the Northern Knights' winning streak to a halt, Hobart Hurricanes defeated the Knights by a massive 86 runs on Tuesday in match 9 of Oppo CLT20 2014.

Knights won the toss and elected to bowl. The Knights' bowlers initially did a good job with the ball restricting the opponents to 20 runs in 5 overs.

Hurricanes' started out slowly losing their first wicket of Ben Dunk in the sixth over with the score reading 21/1. Tim Paine accelerated the innings thereafter before falling in the 11th over for 43 runs off 34 balls hitting 6 fours and one six in the process.

Aiden Blizzard and Shoaib Malik then took control of the proceedings and swiftly scored runs sharing a third wicket partnership of 100 runs from only 49 balls. Blizzard fell in the last over giving an easy catch to Scott Styris. Malik remained unbeaten on 45 that came in 22 balls and was peppered with 5 fours and 2 sixes.

The Knights had a dismal show with the bat. Their top 5 batsmen could not keep up the momentum of the last few games and failed to cross the 10-run mark. Wickets kept falling regularly. Their star batsman Anton Devcich was out for 2 runs in the second over. Kane Williamson followed in the next over on a score of 3 runs. Captain Daniel Flynn was out on the very next ball for a duck.

Only Scott Styris and Tim Southee were successful in scoring some runs. But the Knights never posed any threat to the Hurricanes. They buckled under the pressure and were all out in 16.4 overs having scored a paltry 92 runs.

Both Joe Mennie and Xavier Doherty of Hurricanes bowled a maiden over each, rare in T20 cricket. Hurricanes' Ben Hilfenhaus was the pick of the bowlers with an economy rate of 3.50 and 3 wickets in his kitty. He was also adjudged man of the match. (See scorecard)
