Manny Pacquiao's victory on Saturday over Chris Algieri was not a surprise. From the day he picked the unknown American boxer as his next opponent, boxing fans were sure the Filipino champ would win.

Although the southpaw did not knock out his foe but defended his WBO lightweight title via a unanimous decision, the 12-round fight took its toll on Algieri's handsome face which is now the subject of discussion in Twitter among boxing fans.

A post-fight photo tweeted showed Algieri's right eye swollen and black. That photo was shared by Sergio Mora.

Before the fight started, Nasstassjia Roda Tap pleaded to Pacquiao, "Please don't punch him on his pretty face." Similar requests were made by Joaquin and Maggie Louise.

EGAN predicted, "Chris Algieri's pretty face won't be so pretty after he fights Pacquiao on Saturday night." In turn, Peach Vibal asked the American boxer, "You pretty face .. Why do you want it bruised and broken?"

The aftermath of the 12 rounds on Algieri's face was seen by some Filipino boxing fans from a "humorous" point of view. DJ Manrique admitted that at the start of the fight, the American boxer was more handsome than him, but after 12 rounds, he was sure he was more handsome now than Algieri.

Paw opined that Pacquiao, who definitely doesn't have matinee idol looks, is "insecure" about his opponent's mug that's why most of his punches were on Algieri's face. However, some reports said that because of Pacquiao's being a born-again Christian, he is now kinder to his ring foes and spares his opponents from his killer moves, which reportedly irritates his coach, Freddie Roach.

But boxing being a violent sport, there is no way that boxers would avoid being battered and bruised that after 12 rounds Algieri's face was not a pleasant one to look at.

"I pity him," tweeted Conchitina Eugenion.

However, Algieri also made some hits on Pacquiao's face, but WonderMudra17 viewed if from another perspective which has something to do with the general Filipino perception of congressmen as corrupt and greedy, although in Pacquiao's case, he made his billions on the ring. She sarcastically wrote: "How I love 2 be in Chris Algieri's face. He may have lost but he's done sumthn everybody else wants 2 do - 2 smack a congressman in the face."

Others commented that with Algieri's heartbreaking loss, the ordinary looking Pacquiao is now more handsome that the heartthrob from New York. Pacquiao's mum, famous for her "hex," would surely agree 100 percent, although it is no secret that she wants her son to retire.

While Algieri's face would heal over time, Pacquiao has permanently damaged his record by giving the American boxer his first defeat which many Filipino fans of Pacquiao hope he would also do to thrash talker Floyd Mayweather. That is give Money May his first loss and destroy his hope of retiring from boxing unbeaten. Include as well a swollen face which the boxer's father and trainer, Floyd Mayweather Sr, would still surely love.
