It does not matter for "The Avengers" director, Joss Whedon, if Christopher Nolan's last Batman film may do better than his recent blockbuster. He said that there is no point in clashing the two superhero films.

The year 2012 is packed with superhero movies from Marvel heroes, The Avengers and Spiderman and DC's Batman. "The Avengers" already took the center stage and became a massive hit all over the world. Up next are "The Amazing Spiderman" and "The Dark Knight Rises"

However, expectations are high for the latter films. Whedon recently smashed box office records in many parts of the world earning $200 million mark on its opening weekend in the US. It also dominated Australian box office charts with $13.28 million this weekend upon following its release.

The "Buffy: The Vampire Slayer" director does not seem to see the DC Comics film as a threat for his newly-found success. The New York-born director easily brushed off the rivalry rumors between the two superhero movies by claiming he truly supported Christopher Nolan's final Batman movie.

Whedon was asked how he would feel if The Dark Knight Rises eclipses the success of The Avengers, he replied, "I will feel sad. But let's look at the bigger picture, and I can't say this enough: this is not a zero sum game. Our successes, whoever has the mostest are a boon to each other. We're in the business of proving that superhero movies aren't just eye candy."

"People seem intent on setting us against each other, and though I'm proud to be Woody Strode to Nolan's Kirk Douglas, I think they're missing the point. Whatever TDKR does on its first weekend, the only stat that matters to me is the ticket I'm definitely buying. Nolan and [Sam] Raimi invented the true superhero flick, yo. Happy to be in the mix," the writer/director added.

Nolan's last Batman flick will bring back Christian Bale as the lead Gotham superhero also known as Bruce Wayne, while Tom Hardy stars as his archenemy Bane. The flick will open wide in the U.S. on July 20.
