Sony is yet to release the Android 6.0 Marshmallow software update for its Xperia devices. However, a tweet from a Sony Mobile UK executive has revealed that the Japanese tech company may begin the roll out as early as March 7.

According to the tweet from a Sony Mobile UK representative, the Xperia Z5 series smartphones, which include Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact and Xperia Z5 Premium; Xperia Z4 Tablet and Xperia Z3, will be upgraded to Android 6.0 from March 7, said Xperia Blog.

Several reports mention the official UK account for Sony Xperia, Sony Xperia GB (@sonyxperiagb), which posted on Feb. 15:

@FalseNugget it's set to roll out from March 7th for Xperia Z5 series, Z4 Tablet and Z3+ – we will share confirmed timings when its ready

However, the words of the representative cannot be fully trusted as Sony Mobile has not made an official confirmation. There is a possibility that the update may get delayed or cancelled, Phone Arena reported. The tweet also appears to have been deleted.

As of this writing, there is no confirmation as to whether Sony will be rolling Android 6.0 or the newer Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS update for its recent flagships. The release of the Android M update seems to be imminent as the company has received overwhelmingly positive reception for its Xperia Beta program that it started for Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact owners in October 2015.

The Xperia Beta Program is a way for the company to allow registered users to provide feedback on the beta version of Android 6.0 that is customised with the Sony Xperia UI. At the start, it allowed only 11 countries to participate in the beta program - the UK, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania.

Now, users from Spain, Italy and Netherlands are also allowed to join the beta program. Moreover, apart from owners of the Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact, Xperia Z2 users can become part of the beta program and try the Android 6.0 OS.

Sony Mobile confirmed that apart from the aforementioned devices, Xperia Z3 Tablet, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z3+, Xperia M5, Xperia M4 Aqua, Xperia C5 Ultra and Xperia C4 will be eligible to receive the Android M update.
