The Xiaomi Mi 5 is currently under the wraps but more and more information on the mysterious handset is now surfacing. Unveiling of the Mi 5 is expected on Jan. 21. A leaked render of the Mi 5 indicates it will appear similar to the Xiaomi Mi Note.

Xiaomi Mi 5 render and specifications

The first thing that can be seen on the leaked render of Xiaomi Mi 5 is the phone features a physical Home button. The Mi 5 flagship was previously expected to feature an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner from Qualcomm, but fresh details suggest the Chinese manufacturer will include a traditional fingerprint scanner.

Hence, the Xiaomi Mi 5 will become the first Xiaomi handset to arrive with such a design, Gizmo China reported. Rumors also suggest a Xiaomi Mi 5 Plus variant will be launched alongside Xiaomi Mi 5.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 will be equipped with a 5.2-inch Quad HD screen. It will be enabled with Force Touch like feature that is available on the iPhone 6S variants.

The Snapdragon 820 chipset will power the Mi 5 flagship. It will arrive in two RAM variants. The 3 GB RAM model will come with 32 GB storage whereas the 4 GB RAM model will be arriving with 64 GB storage.

The Android 6.0 Marshmallow on the handset will be customized by MIUI 7 software from Xiaomi. The rear panel of the handset will feature a 21 MP camera. The front-facing camera of the Mi 5 will be an 8 MP.

Pricing, release date and availability

The 32 GB Xiaomi Mi 5 is expected to carry a low price tag of $311 (AU$430) and the 64 GB variant is expected to be priced at $389 (AU$538). Word suggests the Xiaomi Mi 5 will be announced on Jan. 21. It will be available for purchase by February.
