A second season of “Wayward Pines” is reportedly in the works. M. Night Shyamalan and author Blake Crouch are said to have started talking about the project. Some reports even say that Crouch and Shyamalan’s new collaboration might be another miniseries event.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Chad Hodge, executive producer of “Wayward Pines,” said that the Season 1 finale did not provide a teaser for the second season simply because there was no follow-up. He said that they never meant to have a second season. The finale was the end and he said that the story actually came full circle.

However, Deadline reported that the show might have a potential Season 2, featuring different cast members and characters. Discussions are said to be in the early phase and Fox executives will most likely talk to the creative team of “Wayward Pines” about a new season.

In the first season of “ Wayward Pines,” the main character Ethan (Matt Dillon) was killed when he sacrificed himself to protect the rest of the town from being murdered by monsters called the Abbies. His son, Ben (Charlie Tahan), was seriously injured in the final episode, but survived the attack. He woke up inside a hospital after three years and realised that Jason (Tom Stevens) and all of Class One of the Academy froze most of the adults. Jason is currently running the town as the sheriff.

Fans speculate that Ben might continue the work Ethan started. However, there are still no announcements or hints that the 10-episode first season will have a follow-up. If Fox would allow the show to continue, M. Shyamalan revealed that he might take on a new twist completely and that he and Crouch have actually already started throwing ideas at each other. He also said, however, that given his directorial style, he is happy to walk away from the project and not be influenced by opportunity. He said he is happy and humbled by the way the series turned out and how well it was received by fans. ‘Wayward Pines’ is Shyamalan’s first deep foray into series television. He is set to debut his next feature film ‘The Visit’ on Sept. 11.
