Dr Josette "Jo" Laughlin/Parker (played by Jodi Lyn O'Keefe) and Alaric Saltzman (Matt Davis) are the ones to be married, while Damon (Ian Somelhalder) struggles with the biggest decision he might ever have to make.

In the episode, the bride and groom are busy making plans for the happiest day of their lives, checking off tasks and making sure everything is perfect, TV Line reports. Jo picks Elena (Nina Dobrev) to serve as her maid of honor, whereas Damon is handpicked by Alaric to be his best man. The nuptials for the Mystic Falls' couple are well underway.

In the midst of the cheer, however, Damon is plagued by the burden of letting go of his vampire heritage, according to Christian Today. He weighs the pros and cons of becoming a human by taking The Cure for Immortality/Vampirism, a potion known to effectively revert a supernatural being back into a mortal. Elena decided to take this last episode.

While Damon is experiencing second thoughts as he still has unfinished business as a vampire, the trailer apparently showed his brother Stefan playing a hand in the decision and complicating matters further, TV Fanatic reports. Will he finally muster the resolve to live a simple, ordinary life as a human being to be with the one he loves?

The Vampire Diaries Season 6 Episode 21 is slated to air this Thursday, May 7.
